Week 1
Current status of project: We decided on a project and are in the planning stages of how to begin designing it. Team members defined and delegated roles based on each individuals’ strengths. We discussed a general idea of how the work will be distributed amongst the team throughout the semester.
Work completed in the last week: We met with our mentor and talked about the scope for design project. We nailed down a purpose/goal for the project and outlined what we will accomplish this semester.
Work planned for next week: Research background on telemetry and circuits. Get circuit designs for transmitter and receiver from Dr. Morely and get specifications on the headstage from Dr. Moran.
Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work
1. Headstage, transmitter and receiver circuit designs from specified mentors listed above
2. Literature pertaining more specifically to the focus of our project

Current status of project: We have outlined the scope of our design project and are in the process of obtaining all of the design specifications so that we may begin the actual design of the headstage and telemeter.
Work completed in the last week: Last week, we both outlined the scope of our project and established a website domain that will contain information regarding the BCI telemeter and will be updated on a regular basis to show the progress of the project through weekly reports.
Work planned for next week: In the next week we will solidify the design specifications and begin putting together the first written group report. We also intend to create a schedule to help guide us in the completion of project tasks.
Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work
1. Specs relating to the design of the headstage and telemeter (maximum distance between receiver and transmitter, dimensions for circuit board...)
2. Feedback from instructor on our scope to ensure that we start our project on the right track.

Week 4
Current status of project: The team is organizing reference materials to start designing the headstage circuit. In order to focus on our mentor's design specifications we need a thorough understanding of the necessary design techniques and circuit elements. To achieve this, we have to gather information on operational amplifiers, instrumental amplifiers, transistors, and other circuit elements that will be incorporated in our design as well as information on circuit board layouts and materials that will be used.
Work completed in the last week: Through the preliminary oral presentation and written report we identified the key goals of our project and the next steps we must take in order to begin our design. We clarified our focus by defining a more specific need/problem and we identified weak areas of our design.
Work planned for next week: Our group will do independent research based on our project concerns and meet together on Friday to discuss particular design ideas. The information gathered will be used to move into the next step of our design process, creating the headstage circuit.
Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work:
1. Get current circuit board designs from mentor to start headstage design.
2. Ask for more specific information about materials and cost restrictions of the design.

Week 5
Current status of project: Our preliminary presentation and report are finished and we are now working on the progress report. We have changed our need and broadened our project design to give our device fully implantable capabilities; these changes will be reflected in the progress report and presentation. In addition to researching existing and alternative solutions to our need we are working on designing the headstage circuit that will be a part of the final design.
Work completed in the last week: In the past week we met with our mentor and discussed possible existing solutions and the factors we need to consider when choosing the final design for our device. As a group we divided the work for the progress report and established a schedule to ensure that all research and writing is done on time.
Work planned for next week: Each member of the group is researching a different component of the design to find the best possible solution to our need. We will meet again to share what we have found and begin writing the progress report.
Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work:
1. Direction from our mentor on how to incorporate his specific needs into our larger design goal.
2. Literature sources on implantable pacemakers and deep brain stimulators that use biocompatible technology similar to what we will use to design the casing for our device.

Week 6
Current status of project: We are in the process of determining the many ways our device can be designed in order to choose the best possible overall design. We have started the design of the headstage circuit and are researching the other components that will need to be incorporated into the device
Work completed in the last week: In the past week each group member has done individual research on a particular component of the device such as the battery, casing, modes of data transmission, analog to digital converter, multiplexer, and headstage. This research will be analyzed in the progress report to help us choose what to include in the final design.
Work planned for next week: In the next week we plan to write a progress report and in the process come up with the components of our final design. We will also continue to work on the circuit design for the headstage. The group has split up the work into three parts and will meet sometime during the week to discuss new ideas and strategies for the implementation of the design. By the end of the week, the rough draft of the progress report will finished and we will work together to make the paper and design aspects cohesive.
Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work:
1. Guidance on the circuit design for the headstage
2. Feedback on our determination of alternate solutions and choice of final design
3. Information on current biocompatible materials
4. Details about power transfer and battery life

Week 7
Current status of project: We are finishing up the progress report that is due on Wednesday. A majority of the written information is done, we just need to edit, organize and format the paper. In addition, we will have to double check our report to make sure we meet all the criteria established in the rubric.
Work Completed Last Week: Previously, we divided our project up into three parts. We met up and discussed our parts of the progress report. At the meeting we talked about what we had researched independently and the current status of our written sections. This meeting was critical to our complete understanding of the information that will go into the report.
Work Planned for this Week: We will finish the progress written report and practice the oral presentation. To do this, we need to meet up and go through each section of our project. We would like to have a comprehensive analysis of all the alternative options before we choose what our final design will be.
Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work:
1. Confirmation that our project scope, need and solution are sufficient to produce a final design.
2. More detailed specifications to start our final project design
3. Feedback on our written report, to assess whether we met the criteria
